Life can be too much for all of us at times – and what gets us through this overwhelm can sometimes limit us later on. Whether you are overwhelmed now or caught in patterns that limit you, I want to help free you to enjoy more meaningful experiences in life.
My Specialties: As a Licensed Psychologist with over 15 years of clinical experience, I specialize in working with adults who are struggling with how they have been hurt and limited by others and have developed patterns that limit them and their relationships. I work especially well with adult survivors of childhood trauma, people with marginalized identities, and helping men develop healthy masculinity. Together, we can help you heal your wounds, grow beyond your present limits, and feel more free to be true to yourself.
Therapy with Me: Skilled therapists are inherently understanding, accepting, and genuine. In addition to these, my clients experience me as particularly warm, calming, sensitive, and lighthearted. It is important to me that in every session, we make space to honor the depth of your struggles, you feel truly valued, and we help you make manageable progress toward your goals. This progress comes from integrating the best available research with my clinical expertise and your unique needs, values, and preferences. In therapy, I primarily use a contemporary psychoanalytic approach that explores how you respond to your emotions, how this influences your relationships, and how these patterns might be reenacted between us. By helping you heal and grow, we will work toward changing your patterns to be true to you.
My Why: I am committed to therapy because I know firsthand the transformative power of how sharing my struggles with a skilled therapist who is willing to join me can make them easier to bear and overcome. I have developed my specialties with trauma survivors, marginalized people, and healthy masculinity to contribute to a more socially just world in which everyone can heal, social systems improve, and cultures become more compassionate.
Therapy Details: Beyond my specialties, I provide therapy to adult and older adolescent individuals, couples, and groups with a wide range of concerns including anxiety, depression, other mood or thought disorders, dissociation, relationship or family issues, grief and loss, stress, life transitions, identity exploration, and many other concerns. I meet with clients in-person at my calm, comfortable, and private office in a professional business park in East Cobb, Georgia. Due to my office being up one flight of stairs, please inform me if you have any physical accessibility needs.
Payment: I accept insurance from Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Georgia, Carelon Behavioral Health, Cigna, and Quest Behavioral Health. If you are eligible for out-of-network reimbursement, I can provide you with a superbill for you to submit to your insurance company. My private pay fee for individual and relationship therapy is $250 per session.
Other Services: In addition to therapy, I offer experiential workshops for therapeutic drumming and mindfulness practices, organizational consultation and training, psychological assessment, and clinical supervision and consultation for developing therapists. If you are interested in any of these services, contact me directly at 470-531-2847 or drgregstevens@trueresonancepsych.com.
My Experience: Throughout my career, I have gained clinical experience in inpatient, community, and outpatient settings. For 10 years, I worked at Kennesaw State University’s Counseling and Psychological Services. I spent over seven of those years as its clinical director, overseeing daily operations for a comprehensive continuum of clinical services to a diverse university of over 47,000 students. In this role, I also provided clinical and administrative supervision to multiple licensed and pre-licensed clinicians, helped develop a doctoral internship program accredited by the American Psychological Association, and provided a range of clinical and preventative services to the university community.
My Education: I have earned a doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Auburn University, a master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Lee University, and a bachelor’s degree double majoring in Psychology and Human Development and Family Studies from Lee University.
Recent Accomplishments: I spent over three years as a Co-chair of the American Psychological Association’s Society for Psychoanalysis and Psychoanalytic Psychology Early Career Committee and received its Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Development of Early Career Clinicians. I also present and publish professionally at the intersection of contemporary psychoanalytic theory and culture.
Personal Life: I feel most alive when focusing on my body through yoga, being present while spending time with loved ones or outdoors, and feeding my soul with live music.
